ABORTION PILL non-surgical abortion care

A non-surgical abortion commonly known as Abortion Pill, medical abortion or medication abortion is performed in the first 9 weeks of pregnancy.

The medication is administered in pill form in our Florida Abortion Pill locations. The medication has been approved by the FDA for non-surgical abortions.

The first medication taken by mouth will stop your pregnancy from growing and a second medication will help expel your pregnancy.

PLEASE NOTE: Since there is always a statistically small chance of failure with this method, you must be willing to have a surgical abortion if the medical abortion doesn’t work.

In addition, you must be able to commit to two or more visits to the office and be in good health and you must:

  • Agree to have a surgical abortion if the non-surgical abortion fails
  • Be able to receive phone calls from the office
  • Have immediate, reliable access to transportation in the event of an emergency
  • Agree to return to the office for a check-up afterwards.

The first medication that you will be given “blocks a hormone” needed for your pregnancy to continue. The second medication you will receive and take a home will expel your pregnancy.

The abortion pill followed by the vaginal medicine insertions is approximately 98% effective in ending an unwanted or unexpected pregnancy.

Because the abortion pill comes in pill form and is taken by mouth, you can usually avoid surgery.

Also, because it works very early in your pregnancy, the abortion pill allows you to take early action to end your pregnancy in the privacy of your own home.

Bleeding and cramping are a normal part of the process.

The bleeding can be heavier than a normal period and usually lasts from 9-16 days.

In some cases, women may have severe bleeding and then would need to contact the clinic or their doctor immediately.

Your provider will instruct you on how to handle any pain, nausea, headache, vomiting, or diarrhea that could also occur.

The FDA, which has tested it for both safety and effectiveness, has approved the medication abortion.

In the past decade, almost 700,000 women in Europe have safely used the medication to end their pregnancies.

It is now approved for use in more than 23 countries.
